Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations.

  • Inspect equipment components for compliance with Wabtec processes

  • Install and remove different components of the diesel engines such as cylinder heads, strong back, liners, power assembly, etc.

  • Remove and install heavy Locomotive equipment such as Compressors, blowers, Rad fan, radiators …etc.

  • Repair /Remove/Install different components of the Pneumatic system components

  • Understand P&ID drawings of the mechanical systems and doing the needed troubleshooting

  • Understand the interfaces between the mechanical and electrical system

  • Replace Combos/ trucks from underneath locomotives

  • Perform the carpentry works needed

  • Diagnoses malfunctions in diesel engines, air equipment, trucks or other components to determine nature of problem and needed repair or replacement.

  • Perform emergency repairs to locomotives.

  • Replaces locomotive and diesel engine components including but not limited to wheels or trucks, traction motors, springs, couplers, draft gear assembly, gear cases, cylinder heads, air compressors, and turbo chargers.

  • Performs daily service of locomotive units: fuels, waters, lubricates and oils; wipes down and cleans unit/windows; checks supply and drinking water.

  • Performs periodic and annual inspections Wabtec processes pertaining to inspections

  • Operate light and heavy cranes, forklifts, car moving equipment, and other various vehicles is an advantage

  • Operate electrical and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys; operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts such as aluminum, cast iron, steel

  • Maintain written and computer records for maintenance and repairs as required

  • Give direction and share knowledge to part time seasonal mechanical staff and volunteers.

  • Ensure the safe, reliable, and enjoyable working conditions.

  • Read a work instruction, DIN STD, understand measurements, calibration, tools handling and preservation

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8-15 years of experience preferred in locomotive, automotive, heavy trucks or equipment

  • Diploma of secondary school at minimum, Preferred TOMPOSCO or Mubarak Cool institutes

  • English basics required. Ability to read & understand products manuals and maintenance instructions.

  • Prior Locomotive maintenance experience

  • Has good experience on working with complex mechanical system

  • Understand the mechanical Pneumatic system

  • Working with High pressure tools such as HTI Engine cylinder head tools

  • Understanding the working theory of the Diesel engine and Electric compressors

  • Has knowledge with carpentry works

  • Has experience with welding works

  • Has good experience with dismantling and installing various engine components

  • Willing to submit to a pre-employment, criminal and driving background review.

  • Willing to submit to a pre-employment drug screening.

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Working hours “ as per Egyptian laws” , working in shifts is likely an option as well.

  • Candidate should be able to submit a physical prequalification test as well as regular physical test as needed

  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.

  • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment, and work from various heights including making repairs on top of locomotives and railcars.

  • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes

  • Able to work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.

  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner
