Role Summary

The Advance Lead Engineer will be responsible for developing our next generation of Energy Storage products for locomotive and mining applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in electromechanical systems and/or battery packaging. This engineer will work with other subsystems and systems, develop requirements, provide system level packaging solutions and safety strategies. This Engineer will also collaborate with customer facing and sourcing teams to develop a roadmap for future battery technologies, services, and reliability support strategies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead design and development efforts for current products, including battery packs and thermal management systems

  • As the Subject Matter Expert provide technical leadership to the team, mentor junior members

  • Drive project initiatives across a matrixed organization, communicate progress cross functionally and to all levels of the organization including C-suite

  • Collaborate with service and reliability teams to develop customer support strategy and develop cost optimal reliability solutions

  • Generate locomotive packaging designs and detailed DFMEAs for battery packs

  • Identify cost saving opportunities and drive those projects to closure

  • Perform detailed design analysis (FEA, Thermal Models, Bolted Joints, Tolerance stack ups, Design reviews)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree.

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on design experience

  • Experience interpreting and using standards and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with battery EHS and safety procedures

  • Electromechanical systems experience

  • Battery pack design experience

  • Experience with manufacturing process and automation

  • Understanding of electrical and control systems

  • Strong understanding of material properties, sheet metal applications and welding methodologies

  • Project Management

  • Sig Sigma Green Belt/ Black Belt
